John P. Martin Jr., 85, formerly of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the home of his son in Renton, Washington. Born in Syracuse on Saturday, June 14, 1924, he was the son of John Patrick Martin Sr. and Mary Roselia McAllister Martin. He owned and operated a real estate appraisal and consulting business for more than 50 years. An Army Air Force veteran of World War II, John served in the European Theater as a B-24 pilot. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy Class of ’41 and attended the University of Vermont and Syracuse University. John was an avid reader and public library volunteer and patron. He was also a car buff and enjoyed taking road trips. He was a father, grandfather and devoted husband. John was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Ellen O'Brien, brother, Joseph Martin, and sister, Mary U. Picher. Surviving are his sons, John P. (Debra L.) Martin III of Cape Coral, Florida, David P. Martin of Marcellus, New York, Thomas J. (Margrit Bowhall) Martin of Lakeport, New York, William B. (Deborah B.) Martin of Stem, North Carolina, and CDR Peter F. (Juani) Martin of Renton, Washington; three grandsons, Thomas Joseph Jr., John Paul IV and Peter Francis; one granddaughter, Katrina; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
