John Marrs

April 22, 1933 — January 8, 2020

John C. Marrs, 86, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Wednesday at home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was born on April 22, 1933, the son of Edwin Wilson Marrs and Mildred Louise Love. He was a 1951 graduate of Valley Academy. John and his brother, David owned and operated Marrs Brothers Mason Contractors for 40 years.
John was an accomplished bird carver, winning many awards. In his retirement, his woodworking expanded to include several boats and a home full of furniture. He also loved fishing, reading and relaxing at the camp he built on the St. Lawrence River.

John was predeceased by his brothers, David and Edwin.

John is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Beverly Thomas; sons, John (Candace) of Nederland, CO and Dana (Debbie) of Titusville, FL; daughter, Elaine (William Garrison) Potter of Marietta; sister, Melissa Sweet of Saugerties; sister-in-law, Patricia Marrs of Syracuse, six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In honoring John’s wishes, services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
