John L. "Jack" Murray

John L. Jack Murray, 82, of Syracuse, died Saturday, August 26, 2006 in San Diego, California while visiting his son. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, November 15, 1023, he was a graduate of St. Lucys School. Following his graduation from Syracuse University in 1953, Jack worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. as an agent. He returned to Syracuse to raise his family where he was employed by WFBL Radio and WHEN Radio before taking a job in the County Executives Office as the Public Information Officer for John Mulroy. He retired when John Mulroy left office in 1988. Jack was an army veteran of World War II. He was also a former president of the National Public Information Officers Association and member of the Syracuse University Roundtable and the Syracuse University Alumni Association. An avid Syracuse University fan, he was a member of the SU Orange Pack. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Jack's wife, the former Jerry Austin, died in 1983. Surviving are his sons, John (Maria) Murray of San Diego, California and Jim Murray of Syracuse and six granddaughters. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in Holy Family Church. Private burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
