John K. Gardner, 94, of Camillus, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at The Nottingham. Born in Fulton, he moved to Camillus in the 1950s where he resided for over 60 years. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School. John worked in the real estate business for 50 years. He was employed with Eagan Real Estate in the commercial department for over 18 years and in 1980, he formed GCS Real Estate Associates with Paul Seymour and the late Jack Castle. John then became a partner of Sutton Companies for a number of years. He was also a partner in the development and operation of the popular Back Door Tavern and other restaurants in the Syracuse area. John never truly retired, he continued working in real estate until as recently as last year. Joining in 1950, John was the longest living member of Tuscarora Golf Club.
John was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2007.
Surviving are his daughters, Debbie (Bob) Greiner of Cazenovia and Diane (Steve) Shirley of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Dan (Debbie) Gardner of Onondaga Hill; sister, Janice Vose of Gloversville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, July 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, July 29 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. John will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
