John D. Jakubowski, 96, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital, with his loving family at his side. Born and raised in Dexter, NY, John lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
A proud graduate of Dexter High School, John went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Force before earning his associate degree from SUNY Canton. Service ran deep in his family, with all eight of his brothers also serving in the military and returning home safely, a legacy he held close to his heart.
John was a partner and owner of Repco Sales in Syracuse for over 20 years, where his hard work and integrity made a lasting impact. A devout communicant and usher at Holy Family Church, he was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.
He shared a beautiful love of dancing with his beloved wife, Beverly, gliding across the floor with joy and grace. A passionate sportsman, John was a top bowler and an enthusiastic SU fan. He found happiness in boating, fishing, and coaching Camillus Little League, where he became known not just for his guidance on the field but for the cherished tradition of post-game popsicles at his home.
John had a storyteller’s soul, delighting those around him with tales of his childhood and growing-up years. In 2018, he had the honor of participating in the Honor Flight, a tribute that meant the world to him.
Above all, John treasured the time spent with his family, filling every moment with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and warmth that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
John was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and 2 sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Beverly; daughter, Theresa Brown of Alpharetta, GA; son, Michael (Elaine) of Hammondsport; grandchildren, Kara, Michelle, Morgan, and Blythe; great-grandson, Reza and one grandchild on the way; sisters, Jean, Dolly (Charles), and Janina; brothers, Butch (Joan), Eddie, and Marty (Catherine); and several nieces and nephews.
