John J. Walsh, 78, of Howlett Hill, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Community-General Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Monday, October 28, 1929, he was the son of John Walsh and Hester Reid Walsh. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, John attended the Cathedral High School. He was employed for over 40 years with Niagara Mohawk Power Corp., retiring in 1993. He was a Korean War veteran. John was a communicant of The Church of St. Michael's/St. Peter's and member of its funeral choir. He was a member of the American Legion and the New York State Conservation Society. He was also a member of the Niagara Mohawk IBEW Local 97. He was a Civil War historian and enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening. A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family. John was predeceased by his brother, James, in 2005 and sister, Ellen Kendrick, in 2006. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Catherine LaManche; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph J. and Judy Walsh of Camillus; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Melinda and Thomas Davis of Alexandria, Virginia; sister, Virginia Barrett of Camillus; grandchildren, Abigail, Grace, Maggie Ann and Nina; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Michael's/St. Peter's where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Sunday, December 2, 2007 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Marcellus.
