John J. Sak Sr., 85, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was the owner and operator of Sak's Mobil for 50 years. John was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed rebuilding antique and classic cars and won many trophies for doing so. Above all, John loved spending time with his family at their camp on Lake Ontario.
The family would like to thank the 7th floor staff at the VA Medical Center and the nurses of Hospice for their loving care given to John.
John was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Theresa Sak-Hagen; sisters, Mary Cary and Helen McAuliff; and brother, Edward Marlin.
Surviving are his daughters, Sherry (Robert) Rocco and Donna Sak; son, John Sak Jr.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, December 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be Monday, December 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
