John Horba, 95, of Fairmount, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at University Hospital. Born in Buck Run, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, August 22, 1916, he was the son of John Horba and Paraska Kurtiak Horba. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. John was owner of Hi-Mark in Syracuse where he bartended for over 25 years, retiring in 2004 and previously worked at Mahuniaks Bakery in Oswego and was a farmhand in Remsen. A devoted family man, he was a lifetime member of the Syracuse Turners Club and also enjoyed carpentry, traveling, gardening, planting and loved baseball, especially the Yankees. John was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 1992; and brothers and sisters. Surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and William Dumas of Mexico and Mary and Stanley Feketa of Clinton; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen & Florence Mizgala of Mexico; grandchildren, Ronald (Sharon) Graves and Victoria (Roger) Logan, both of Syracuse, Donald (Michelle) Graves of Warners, David (Robin) Graves of Baldwinsville; Jennifer-Jo (Tom) Williams of Camillus, Heidi (Maged) Kamel of Sacramento, CA, and Juliana (Grant) Freeman of Cumming, GA; great-granddaughter, Alison Graves of Baldwinsville; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, April 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
