John Higgins Clancy, 85, of Camillus, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at University Hospital. Born in Oswego on Saturday, January 27, 1923, he was the son of Laurence David Clancy II and Elizabeth Higgins Clancy. He lived in Camillus since 1952. John graduated from Oswego High School and attended Rochester Business Institute. He was an Army veteran of World War II. President of Blue Shield of Central New York, he retired in 1988, after 39 years. He was a former medical administrative officer for three years with the Veterans Administration. John was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a member of the VFW Solvay Post. He was a charter member and member of the board of directors of both St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center and Loretto. He was also a member of the Public Health Association and the Camillus Democratic Party. His wife of 48 years, the former Florence Sweeney, died April 8, 1998. Surviving are his daughters, Jean (Joseph) Clancy Botta of Ballston Lake; Ellen (Thomas) Clancy Whitesel of Brevard, North Carolina, Mary Kate Clancy of Fayetteville, Susan (Michael) Clancy-Magley of Manlius and Anne (Charles Bennett) Clancy of Hilton; son, Patrick (Bridgette) Clancy of Cantonment, Florida; brother, Joseph Clancy of Winchester, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and beloved dog, I-See-Ya. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
