John F. “Jack” Glavin, 67, of Lake Mary, FL, formerly of Syracuse, passed away Friday. He succumbed to a very aggressive form of cancer, after a courageous, yet short battle of just five weeks. Born in Syracuse to the late James P. Glavin and Julia Capriotti, John attended St. Anthony of Padua Grammar School and was a 1974 graduate of CBA. He was employed by Hillbrook Detention Center before moving to Orlando, FL, 40 years ago. John became a licensed private investigator, opening his own company, Corporate Security Solutions, Inc. He took great pride in doing work for the National Football League Players Association, National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, and Major League Baseball.
John’s heart and love were always in the city of Syracuse; he never forgot his roots! He was a fan of all Syracuse University sports and had close ties to former and current S.U. players and staff.
John was generous to all, giving his time, talent, and wisdom to everyone. He had a positive outlook and an amazing sense of humor.
Surviving are his wife, Becky; daughter, Elizabeth Glavin (Nathan) Boese and their children, Emma, Blake, and Julia, all of Florida; step-daughter, Christine (Jim) Ettore and their children, Krysten and Kaylee, all of Florida; siblings, James (Madelaine), Ed (Charlotte), Dan (Rosanne); Margaret (Ed) Lazore, Marie Glavin, and Sharon Glavin, all of Syracuse; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service for John will be held Tuesday, August 8 at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, 4781 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, with Rev. Ed Zandy officiating.
Burial will be private.
