John G. Barrett

October 24, 1926 — December 18, 2017

John G. Barrett, 91, of Marcellus, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at Loretto. Born in Canton, OH, he moved to Syracuse in 1935 and lived in Marcellus for over 50 years. John was a 1945 graduate of Solvay High School and a 1952 graduate of Le Moyne College. He was an Army veteran. John retired in 1992 after 39 years with Crucible Steel Corp. A communicant of Holy Family Church, he was a member of its Holy Name Society and Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was an avid Civil War historian and a member of the Camillus Historical Society.

John was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2012; daughter, Linda, in 2011; son, John G. Barrett II, in 2006; and brother, James, in 2010.

Surviving are his sons, Joseph (Katie) and James (Else), both of Marcellus, Daniel of Cartersville, GA and Thomas of Missoula, MT; sisters, Sister Jean Barrett of St. Petersburg, FL and Carol (Donald) Moriaty of North Syracuse; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call Friday, December 22 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. Burial will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s name to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to Franciscan Northside Ministries, 804 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
