John Francis Otis Jr., 63, of Camillus, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at home. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he was born on Wednesday, July 4, 1945. He graduated from St. Vincent DePaul School. John retired from Phillip Morris USA after 33 years and previously with IATSE Local Union 9 after more than 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus. John enjoyed fishing and golf and was a member of the Elks #31 and Knights of Columbus. John was predeceased by his wife, the former Susan Dunham, on October 7, 2008. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandy Otis of Columbus, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Beth and David Alexander of Baldwinsville, Sarah and David McMurray of Charlotte, North Carolina, Stephanie and Patrick Savage of Elmhurst, Illinois and Katherine Otis of Camillus; his mother, Phyllis Otis of Camillus; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Jenna Alexander; step-grandchildren, Brown and Katie McMurray; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and John Morgan of Sauquoit, Diane and Terry Clancy of North Syracuse and Kathy and Mark Vinceguerra of Clifton Park; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Paula Otis of Silver Lake, Ohio, Thomas and Mary Otis of Camillus, Robert and Lynda Otis of East Syracuse and Frank Otis of Camillus; and three grandpuppies. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Monday, May 18, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Jamesville.
