John F. Gebhardt, 86, of Camillus, died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Community-General Hospital. Born in Syracuse on Monday, September 15, 1919, he was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse-Camillus area, John was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by Crucible Steel Corp. and Sanderson Steel, retiring in 1981 after 46 years. He was a communicant of St. Brigid & St. Joseph's Church and St. Josephs Church. John was predeceased by his brothers, Charles, William, James and, Thomas Gebhardt; sisters, Dorothy Barone, Catherine Carolin, Mary Wenzel, Margaret Welch, Loretta DeSpirito, Anne Warlick, Helen Paoli, Joanne Flaherty and Alice Williams and parents, Johanna Ahern and John Gebhardt. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Carolyn Gebhardt of Camillus; two sisters, Edna Borio of Cicero and Florence (Anthony) Modafferi of Syracuse; one brother, David Gebhardt of Syracuse; three grandsons and their wives John J. and Monica Gebhardt, Gregory and Lynn Gebhardt and Jason and Jennifer Gebhardt; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Taylor, J. Cameron, Ryan and Emma Gebhardt and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 9 a.m. in St. Brigid & St. Joseph's Church, 318 Herkimer St., Syracuse where Rev. George Hartnett will celebrate a funeral Mass. Friends may call Tuesday, February 21, 2006 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
