John E. Caslake, 84, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard 27th Division from 1955-1965. John was employed by Crucible Steel for 17 years before retiring in 1995. A communicant of St. Marianne Cope Parish at Our Lady of Peace Church, he was also a member of the Holy Name Society, the Lakeland Seniors, and the Syracuse MOST as well as being a past officer. He enjoyed traveling and model trains and was part of the “Not Too Serious Railroad Society.”
John was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Madaline; daughter, Marijane; and brother, Joseph.
Surviving are his daughter, Joanne Caslake of Syracuse; sister, Eva (Edward) Olszewski of Syracuse; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Nicholas) Crisafi of Liverpool; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, October 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 19 at 10 a.m. at Saint Marianne Cope Parish (Our Lady of Peace Church) 203 Halcomb St., Lakeland.
John will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY & Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
