Joe "Poppy" Finkelstein

June 12, 1925 — October 20, 2012

Joseph Finkelstein, 87, of DeWitt, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 at home. Born in Syracuse on Friday, June 12, 1925, he was the son of Harry and Mame Finkelstein. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, he was an Army veteran of World War II. Joe was the owner of J.F. Auto Sales and former buyer for a variety of car dealerships, including Fucillo, Fred Raynor and Fox. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan, and enjoyed gardening, good wine and traveling to Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Sonya Simon; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David Goodfellow of Kirkville; son, Jay Finkelstein of Cicero; grandchildren, Marie Finkelstein, Paul (Jessica) Finkelstein and Daniel and Andrew Goodfellow; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Eternity, Aryanna and Jazmynn Finkelstein; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, October 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Wednesday, October 24 at noon from the funeral home. Joe will be laid to rest in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
