Joanne N. Gifford, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday. Loving and generous, Joanne had a unique gift of making everyone feel valued and special, whether they be family, friend or someone she just met. Born in Syracuse to Cornelius and Margaret (Meagher) Norris, she spent her adult life in Fairmount, Camillus, and North Fort Myers, FL. Joanne was employed for several years by the West Genesee Central School District as a secretary to the superintendent and as a teacher’s aide for children with special needs. An avid golfer, she was also a communicant of St. Joseph’s and Holy Family Churches, and a longtime volunteer at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Joanne and Jack were founding members and active in the Syracuse area South West Interfaith Group.
Joanne was predeceased by her son, Jon, in 2003; sisters, Mary Kniery and Jane Hilferding; and brothers, Neil and Paul Norris.
Surviving are her loving husband of 71 years, Jack; sons, James (Barbara), Jeffrey (Charlene), and Joseph (Allyn); grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Jenna (Timothy) Sullivan, Jacklyn (Kevin) Moffitt, Marjorie and Emily; great-grandson, Shane Sullivan and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, May 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Facial coverings are required.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 15 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. She will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
