Joanne M. Shmokaluk Garn, 78, of Geddes, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was born on Monday, May 7, 1934 and was a graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School. Joanne retired in 1992 after 14 years with GTE Sylvania. She was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church and formerly of St. Charles Borromeo Church. A member of the Ukrainian Women's Auxiliary, she also enjoyed gardening and spending winters in Stuart, Florida. Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Alexander Shmokaluk and Anastasia Schrenko Shmokaluk; and sister, Gloria Hotze. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Francis “Bob”; son, Christopher Garn of Wheaton, Illinois; granddaughter, Abigail Michaleena Garn; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of CNY for all of their care and compassion during this time. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be Wednesday, May 30 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. in Most Holy Rosary Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated.
