Joanne (Tomi) Dooley, 89, of Camillus, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 26, 2016 at home. Born and raised on the Northside of Syracuse, she was the youngest of six siblings, and a graduate of Assumption Academy.
Joanne married her husband, Robert, in 1947 and moved to Camillus in 1956 where they raised their five children. She always enjoyed working and was employed with the NY Telephone Co., E.W. Edwards, and retired in 1988 from Merchants National Bank.
Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert, in 2013; daughter, Karen Kowarek, in 1995; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are her children, Michael, Richard (Grace Xue), Patrick (Mary), and Steven; grandchildren, Erin Dooley, Christopher (Jessica) Dooley, Maureen (John) Gardner, Kevin Dooley, Bridget (Rex) Mahoney, Cara Dooley, Elaina Dooley, and Brennen Dooley; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Maggie.
Joanne will be fondly remembered for her loving, kind, and selfless approach to her life. She was actively involved in helping raise each of her grandchildren, a role she truly cherished, as well as volunteering at Holy Family Church. She loved watching SU basketball and always looked forward to the start of a new season. She will be missed! God bless you mom!
The family would like to extend a very sincere appreciation to the people who provided loving care to Joanne in the last two years of her life and particularly the team of angels that helped mom spend her final weeks in the comfort of her home.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, December 2 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be at noon at the funeral home and 12:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Joanne will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
