Joanne Elna Shedd July 20, 2010 Joanne Elna Shedd, 71, of Syracuse, passed peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Rutland, Vermont, she earned an Associate’s degree in social work from Farmingdale Community College, graduating number one in her class in 1977. Joanne was foremost a kind and loving person, devoted wife, mom and grandma who cherished family above all else. She was exceptionally talented as a pianist, who always played by ear. Her music was enjoyed by people from all walks of life both as a professional and as a volunteer, and will be truly missed by her family during the holidays. Joanne was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church serving as a trustee and also on other committees. She was passionate about golf and enjoyed her membership at Tuscarora Golf Club where she helped run the 18-hole league for several years. She also loved tennis and friends at Pine Grove. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Russell; children, Ann-Marie (Ed) Gilroy of Onondaga Hill, Timothy Shedd of Ocala, FL and Jennifer (Kurt) Birchler of Camillus; grandchildren, James and Sean Gilroy, Danny Shedd and Jessica and Jack Birchler; brothers, Sal (Patty) Gallo of The Villages, FL and James (Jackie) Gallo of Vienna, WV; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Immanuel United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joanne’s name to the Carol M.
