Joan A. Pompo, 91, of Camillus, passed away Sunday at home. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Solvay High School. Joan was a loving and devoted mother to her six children and held her role as a mother with great love and dedication. A communicant of Holy Family Church, she had a remarkable talent in the kitchen, where she delighted her family with her culinary creations. Joan’s cooking brought people together, fostering an atmosphere of love and warmth during family gatherings. She also had a passion for birdwatching.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Frank; parents, Leo and Filomena Laramay; and sisters, Jane Mossotti and Patricia Bosco.
Surviving are her children, Lisa (Thomas) Collins, James (Mary Alice) Pompo, Sandra (James) D’Amico, Frank Pompo, Susan (Jerry) Bolton, and Michael (Jessica Roland) Pompo; grandchildren, Sara, Jessica, Laura, Thomas, Frank, Jim, Matt, Joe, Alex, Michala, David, Jeffrey, Kiarra, Vincent, Dominic, Evan, Val, Krista, and Joshua; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan’s family gives a special thank you to her beloved caretakers and friends, Mae Wiggins and Ertha Cummings.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 28, at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Joan will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Cir., Syracuse, NY 13210.
