Jeraldine “Jerrie” Schumacher, 71, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Sunday at Upstate University Hospital following a short illness with family at her bedside. Born in Salt Lake City, UT, she resided most of her life in the Syracuse area, Jerrie received an associate’s degree in nursing from Onondaga Community College. She worked as a dedicated, compassionate, registered nurse at Community General Hospital for 43 years. Jerrie was a beacon of light to her family. Her manner was unpretentious and kindhearted. As an avid sports fan, she loved Syracuse basketball and football, attended several SU bowl games, final fours and Olympic games. Having traveled to numerous countries throughout the world, Jerrie’s bags were always packed and ready to go for a new adventure. Her last journey led her to the Holy Land. An active and long-term member of her church, Jerrie sang in the choir, served on several committees and participated in many mission activities. Her heartfelt service touched the lives of many.
Jerrie was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Rae Schumacher.
Surviving are her sisters, Jackie (Bill) Guercio of Onondaga Hill, Jolynn (Prasit) Sricharoenchaikit of Westborough, MA and Janice (Tom) Munnett of Onondaga Hill; nieces & nephews, Eric (Megan) and Evan (Arthur) Guercio, Emily (David) Moore, Jennifer and Elizabeth Sricharoenchaikit, and Matthew and Rachel Munnett.
Relatives and friends may call October 3 from 1 to 4 pm at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A service will be celebrated October 4 at 11 am at Erwin First United Methodist Church, 920 Euclid Ave., Syracuse. Jerrie will be laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery.
