Jeanne Mary DeRose, 76, of Onondaga Hill, passed away Tuesday at Upstate Medical Center. Born in Woonsocket, RI, she grew up in Buffalo before becoming a 1966 graduate of Alfred State College. Jeanne moved to the Syracuse area in 1968 where she was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Bristol Myers Squibb, working in their labs. She then worked as an accounting manager at Stedman & Garger Associates, Inc. for 26 years, before retiring in 2011. A devout communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, she volunteered for many church activities. Jeanne had her private pilot license and enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing Bunco with the same group of ladies for 30 years. Jeanne was known for her warmth, kindness and great sense of humor. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Jeanne was predeceased by her loving parents, John and Mary Malenczuk; and father-in-law, Joseph DeRose.
Surviving are her beloved sons, Joseph (Danyelle) of Minneapolis, MN, and Jason (Cynthia) of Burnt Hills, and their father, Thomas DeRose of Baldwinsville; grandchildren, Jaegur, Gabriella and Isabella; mother-in-law, Mary DeRose of Syracuse; and brother-in-law, Ralph DeRose of Syracuse.
The family would like to extend their sincere heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Upstate Medical Center’s Neurocritical Care Unit 9E for their compassion and care.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, September 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A Panakhyda service will take place at 6:30 p.m.
A service will be held Tuesday, September 13 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with a Divine Liturgy for the Deceased to follow at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 207 Tompkins St., Syracuse.
Jeanne will be laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
