Jeanette “Nettie” Gilmour, 86, of Marcellus, passed away of COVID-19 on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Central Park Nursing Home. A lifetime resident of the Marcellus area, she was the daughter of Nelson T., former barber in Marcellus, and Florence Schanzle Gilmour, who played center and forward for the Marcellus basketball team, which won the all-county in 1920. She operated a bakery and dry goods store in Marcellus for years. Many will remember her half-moon cookies. She was a 1951 graduate of Marcellus High School. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, she was, stationed in NYC and Munich, Germany from October 1960 to April 1964.

Jeanette retired after 20 years with the U.S. Postal Service and previously worked with Murray Bernthal, director for Famous Artist Broadway Theater Series.

A devoted friend, sister and daughter to her family, Jeanette was by her mother’s side for her entire life and gave her loving care until her passing and was her father’s right-hand person on the property they so dearly loved. She will be remembered by all of us as a steadfast friend to those of us lucky to have shared her journey with us as a lover of animals, nature and her little dog, Esther.

Jeanette was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Thomas, Morgan and Nelson Gilmour.

Surviving are her sisters, Anne Gilmour Lloyd of Fairmount and Betsey Bond of Chelsea, MI; nieces, Terry Bond-Manville, Tina Bond-Calus and Tracy Ostasiewicz, all of Michigan; nephews, Andrew Stonger (godson) and Eric Stonger, who were always with her to lend support and a helping hand; and lifelong friend, Kay Seibert.

Services will be private. Jeanette will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Marcellus.
