Jean Marie (Morlock) Whelan, 84, of Camillus, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday at Francis House, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Jersey, she lived most of her life in the Syracuse area. Jean graduated from Most Holy Rosary and earned a bachelor’s degree from Marymount College. She was a former French teacher in the West Genesee School District and social worker with Catholic Charities. Jean enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and playing Bridge. Above all, she loved spending time with family.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Morlock; and sister, Maribeth Morlock.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Kevin E. Whelan; daughter, Kathleen Whelan of Boston; son, Kevin M. (Tracy) Whelan of Great Falls, VA; and grandson, Parker Whelan.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, April 17 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Face coverings are required.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse. If you are unable to attend, you can view the live streamed funeral Mass by visiting Holy Family Church’s website and clicking on Jean’s service. Jean will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
