Jane (Mather) Gilheney, 93, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. She was born on October 6, 1927 to the late Harold and Ella Mather. Raised in Tipperary Hill, Jane graduated from St. Patrick’s School in 1945 and married her husband, James, in 1946. She was employed with the NY Telephone Co. and St. Charles Borromeo School, first working in the school and then running the school’s cafeteria. A longtime communicant of St. Charles Church, Jane was a member of its Funeral Guild, preparing and serving many luncheons. She also volunteered at The Centers at St. Camillus.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 1993; son, Jeff, in 2020; sisters, Betty and Pat; and brothers, Mickey and Marty.
Surviving are her sons, James of Syracuse and Daniel (Kathy) of Camillus; grandchildren, Daniel (Maeve), Meghan, Michael and Maggie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, January 26 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in St. Charles ~ St. Ann’s Parish, 501 South Orchard Rd., Syracuse.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the church. Jane will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
