Jane Binns Flaherty, 79, of Camillus, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. She was born to Joseph and Leona Binns in Auburn, NY on July 31, 1936 during one of the hottest spells in area history. Some might say that is the source of the warm smile on her face - even through the many health trials she faced. As a lifetime resident of Camillus, Jane graduated from high school there in 1954. It was during this time when a Solvay guy captured her heart. She married Richard “Red” Flaherty on October 20, 1956. Her working years included ten years at Carrier Corp., several years as a stay-at-home mom, raising three children, then a part-time stint at Dey Bros., a 15-year career at Le Moyne College and finally a part-timer at The Bon-Ton Camillus where she wrapped thousands of gifts for those happy customers. Jane was a leader in the Camillus Elks Ladies Auxiliary where she met many new friends so dear to her right up to the end. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of Holy Family Church. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Leona. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Richard; sons, Timothy (Kimberly) and Jeffrey (Caroline); daughter, Gwynne (Sean) Conway; brothers, Richard (Patricia) Binns and Dean (Patricia) Binns; sister, Donna (Frank) Valls; grandchildren, Matthew, Emma Kate, Quinlan, Mairead and Daniel; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, February 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 24 from the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Jane will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camillus Elks Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 396, Camillus, NY 13031.
