James T. Roach, 89, of Fairmount, passed away Saturday at University Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he received a bachelor of science degree in finance from Siena College. Jim was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant with the military police in Germany during the Nuremberg Trials. He retired from Christopher Community, Inc. and previously worked at Colonial Life Insurance. Jim was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending summers at his family camp in Old Forge. An avid golfer and bowler, he was a member of both Eastwood Golfing and Bowling Leagues. He also enjoyed gardening. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Elizabeth Clark Carnegie; stepsons, James (Doreen) Carnegie of Camillus and Thomas (Melonie) Carnegie of Tempe, AZ; granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine Carnegie, both of Syracuse; brothers, Paul Roach of Syracuse and Leo (Nan) Roach of Fayetteville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, January 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 28 at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church. James will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
