James T. Sweeney, 85, of Fairmount, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Born in Fairport on Sunday, August 10, 1924, he was the son of Frank Sweeney and Margaret Neary Sweeney. James was owner of Snelling & Snelling, retiring in 1987 after 27 years. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of the 8th Air Force Historical Association. An active communicant of Holy Family Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Nocturnal Adoration Society. He was also formerly employed by Allright Parking Garage. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joan; daughters and son-of-law, Susan and Bill Thompson of Liverpool and Nancy Sweeney of Westvale; sister, Sally Palmer of Penfield; and grandchildren, Sarah and Justin Thompson. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 18 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, January 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
