James “Jim” P. Mooney, 92, of Camillus, passed away on July 8, 2024, at St. Camillus. Born to Francis and Florence Mooney in Watertown, he attended Split Rock School before joining the Navy to serve in the Korean War on the USS Palau. Jim married the love of his life, the former Patricia Powell, in 1957, and was delighted to welcome their son, Scott, of whom he was very proud. He worked briefly at Carrier Corp. before retiring from New Process Gear in 1992. Jim was a devoted member of the Church of The Saviour, serving many years on the altar, in the Vestry, and as Warden. Jim dedicated much of his life to the Masons, serving in the Onondaga County Masonic District as Worshipful Master of the Sapphire Lodge in Camillus in 1980, and at the Morning Star Lodge in Marcellus in 2022. He was honored to be chosen as the Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master from 1982-1983. Jim and his wife were Patron and Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in the early 1980s. He was proud of his participation in the Scottish Rite, achieving the 32nd degree, and served two terms as Thrice Potent Master in the Lodge of Perfection, where he received the Meritorious Service Award in 1994. Jim was a proud member of the Pine Grove Health and Country Club where he trained regularly until the last few months. He is known for his outgoing personality, his never-ending supply of jokes, and his ability to collect friends who turn into family. He loved golf, traveling to Ireland, and most of all, his family.

Jim was predeceased by his parents; wife of 58 years, Pat; brother, Joseph Mooney; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Mooney.

Surviving are his son, Scott (Renée) Mooney of Baldwinsville; grandchildren, Corinne (Carlos) Camacho and Brett; sister, Patricia Mooney of Baltimore, MD; brother, Paul Mooney of Jordan; several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous close family friends who considered him a father figure and a steadfast friend.
