James E. Crowell, 83, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, James was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School and Syracuse University where he received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He was a United States Navy veteran. James was employed by General Electric Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1993. A communicant of The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, James was also an usher and funeral assistant. He was the Director of Lourdes Intramural Basketball in the 70s. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed SU basketball and football as well as the Detroit Tigers. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Crowell; stepmother, Eleanor; and brothers, Charles and Richard.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Carol Walburger; children, Stephen (Lori) Crowell of Liverpool, Diane Salvagno of Florida, Michael Crowell of Manlius and Cynthia (Jack Bremen) Sass of California; sister, Joanne Bardo; six grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, September 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 14 at 10 a.m. in The Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, Syracuse. James will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
