James “Jim” Cantello, 69, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at home. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, March 28, 1939, he was the son of Angelo Cantello and Louise Bessesi Cantello. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and graduated from Vocational High School. Jim was employed 32 years with New Process Gear, retiring in 1996. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and an avid volunteer with the food pantry and many other church functions. He was a member of the Union UAW 624. He enjoyed baking and cooking and was well known for his cookies. He also was a Syracuse University basketball and football fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his first wife, the former Dorothy Felicia; sisters, Margaret, Josephine, Anna and Frances; and brothers, Joseph, Frank and Paul. Surviving are his wife of seven years, the former Vivian Arnone; son and daughter-in-law, Angelo and Maryann of Syracuse; daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne and Tim Karandy of East Syracuse and Lisa Marie and Kevin Burdick of Wadsworth, Ohio; sisters, Mary Galli of Solvay, and Rose Hart and Angelina Gabana, both of Central Square; step-daughter, Lisa Marie Jacobson of Liverpool; step-sons, Paul (Marie) Marzullo of Syracuse and Michael (Deb) Marzullo of Brewerton; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Jim will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
