James C. Hamilton, 85, formerly of Camillus, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020 in Ormand Beach, FL. Born in Stockton, MO, he lived in Garnett, KS before moving to the Syracuse area in 1969. Jim was a decorated Army veteran who served overseas and received four medals of honor. Jim retired in 1996 after 36 years with P&C Food Markets. Previously a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, he was most recently a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was a Boy Scout leader and member of the Camillus Senior Citizens and Camillus Elks. He enjoyed golfing, outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
Jim was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, the former Doris “Pat” Alberry, in 2007; siblings, Anna Potter, Opal June Mowat and William Franklin Hamilton; and grandson, Matthew Pike.
Surviving are his son, David (Anne) of Salisbury, MD; daughter, Carol Knowles of Camillus; sister, Dorothy Schrock of Ruston, LA; brother, Robert Hamilton of Titusville, FL; and grandchildren, Michael Mevec of Auburn and Jessica (Donald) Mensing of Rochester.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 26 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Syracuse. Jim will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
