Israel Berkman, 89, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at The Centers at St. Camillus. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a graduate of Marcellus High School and received his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University. He was an Army veteran.
Israel was known as the "quintessential" bank examiner of his time, retiring in 1990 from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He loved birdwatching and was an avid SU football and basketball fan.
Israel was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Pauline; first wife, Jean; second wife, Mary Jenkins; sister, Shani Weinstein; and brother, Sigmund Berkman.
Surviving are his son, Kevin (Linda) Crockett of Camillus; daughter, Karen (Jim) Kelley of Hamburg; sister-in-law, Vera Berkman; grandchildren, Corey and Cameron Crockett, Cheyenne LaPan and Matthew, Daniel and Kaitlyn Kelley; nephews, Joel and Danny Berkman; nieces, Midge Berkman and Ruth Becker; and great-niece, Tamara Berkman.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, January 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Serenity Garden Mausoleum, Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
