Isabella Turturo Smith, 99, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Thursday surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Frankfort, she moved to Utica in 1941, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication.
Isabella worked for the State Office Building in Albany for over 20 years, where she was known for her diligence and warm personality. Prior to that, she was employed at Lincoln Farms Restaurant in Utica, where she made many lifelong friends.
A lover of the outdoors, Isabella spent countless happy days at her family camp on Racquette Lake. Her love for nature was matched by her love for games and sports. She was an avid SU basketball fan, enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and various word games. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Isabella was predeceased by her first husband, Paul Carlesimo; second husband, James J. Smith; brothers, Frank, Philip, and James Turturo; sisters, Grace Borawski and Agnes Deliberto; beloved daughter, Elizabeth Carlesimo Torrone.
Surviving are her daughter, Geraldine (Albert) Campos of Syracuse; son, Frank (Vincenza) Carlesimo of Ontario; half-brother, David (Debbie) Turturo of Utica; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
To celebrate Isabella’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Isabella will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
