Irene M. Lavigne, 88, of Lakeland, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Scriba, she was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. Irene was a graduate of Oswego High School and formerly employed by American Emblem, Cherry Road Elementary School cafeteria and Murphy's in Fairmount Fair. A member of Christ Community Church, she was also a member of the Home Bureau in Fairmount and enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting and making cards for her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Irene was predeceased by her sister, Celia Peryea, in 2013. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Morton T. Lavigne of Lakeland; daughters, Kathleen (William) Sanderson of Lakeland and Sandra (Mark) Hanson of Jamestown; son, Calvin (Robin) Lavigne of Ontario, OH; three sisters and one brother; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, May 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Irene will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
