Irene DeLong Curry, 93, of Prattsburg and Avoca, passed away April 23, 2016 at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Place in Baldwinsville, NY. Born in Hagerstown, MD on June 6, 1923, she grew up in Martinsburg, WV. Irene was the daughter of Thelma and James DeLong. She graduated from King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Martinsburg in 1944 and was employed with the Veteran’s Administration in Bath for 20 years. An avid hand quilter, she was a member of the Park Patches Quilting Guild and the Winner’s Circle Quilting Club. She was also an active member of the North American 40+ Touring Riders Motorcycle Club. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Curry, in 1961; son, Joseph Patrick Curry, in 2015; soul mate, Herman Fleischman, in 1991; brothers, Charles and Richard; and sister, Marie. She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) of La Mesa, CA, William (Joan) of Wenatchee, WA, Michael (MaryBeth) of Syracuse, NY, John (Lourdes) of Alameda, CA and Roberta of Syracuse, NY; sister Emma Jane Hollida of Winchester, VA; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Per the request of Irene, there will be no calling hours and services will be private. Please plant a perennial in celebration of her life and in her memory.
