Irene Anne McQueeney, 91, of Camillus, passed away Thursday. Born in Montezuma, she moved to the Syracuse area in 1953. She was a graduate of Port Byron High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1952 from Nazareth College and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Syracuse University. Irene was a music teacher in the Syracuse City Schools and a guidance counselor at the Marcellus Central School District for more than 35 years, retiring in June 1990. She was a long-time communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, former music director and cherished choir member. She was a volunteer at Upstate Medical Center, actively involved with the Golisano Children’s Hospital and a strong supporter of music and arts in the area. An avid gardener, she took pride in maintaining a beautiful garden. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Irene was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Robert, in 2002; two brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are her children, Mark (Shane) McQueeney of Marcellus, Cathie McQueeney of Albuquerque, NM and Christopher (Connie) McQueeney of Onondaga Hill; grandchildren, Kyle and Dylan Paesani, Casey, Cody, Parker and Luke McQueeney, and Aline, Julia and Lia McQueeney; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, February 10 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. Face masks are required.
Irene will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse.
