Imelda Holzner, 69, of The Hearth at Greenpoint, Liverpool, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. In March 2007, she had moved to Central New York from Yonkers along with her mother. Born in San Francisco on November 21, 1944, she moved with her parents to NYC in 1946. She attended school at St. Barnabas in the Bronx and graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers. Imelda earned her LPN degree in 1964 from St. Joseph's Nursing School in Yonkers. After working two years at the affiliated hospital, she spent the remainder of her career as a nurse at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the Bronx. She retired in 2006 after 42 years of dedicated medical service. Her gentle, selfless nature was appreciated by all who knew her. Imelda was a member of the Catholic Kolping Society, the Bavarian Club, and from 1973 to 1980, performed as a folk dancer with the Weissbrau Dance Club. Until her move to Liverpool, she was an active member of St. Barnabas parish in the Bronx. Miss Holzner enjoyed reading, watching TV, listening to polka music and traveling with her family and friends. Surviving are her mother, Wally; sister, Irmgard; brother-in-law, Tom; niece, Irena, as well as caring cousins and uncles in the United States and Germany. With their shared interests in international travel, Imelda and her immediate family enjoyed a life of exploration and appreciation of the world's great cultures. Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus.
