Hugh E. Stannard, 101, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 surrounded by family. Born in Lowell, Vermont, he lived in St. Johnsbury, Vermont for several years before moving to Camillus in 1965. He was a 1934 graduate of Montpelier High School in Montpelier, Vermont and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Hugh retired in 1978 after 34 years with Mobil Oil Corp. He was a member of Fairmount Community Church United Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge. Hugh loved animals and music, especially organ music. He played trumpet in the military band and for 30 years he played in the Shriner's Band. Hugh was an avid golfer spending many winters in Gulf Shores, AL, but above all loved spending time with his family and friends.
Hugh was predeceased by his brother, Donald; sister, Lucena Ackerman; and son-in-law, John Grobsmith.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, the former Helen Dinges; daughter, Susan Grobsmith of Elbridge; son, Jim (Cynthia) Stannard of Durham, CT; grandchildren, Debi, Rick, Lauri, Kathi and Jacki; and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Colin, Leah, Evan, Jack, Mary Kate, Adrian and Julianne.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, May 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
