Hoyt LeRoy Champlain, 104, formerly of Howlett Hill, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009 in Leesburg, Florida. Born in Howlett Hill on Saturday, April 22, 1905, he was the son of Paul E. Champlain and Lara Emily Kasson Champlain. He lived in Syracuse until moving to Florida in the mid '70s. Hoyt was employed with the New York State Dept. of Transportation, retiring in 1970. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Leesburg and 75-year member of the Camillus Masons. Surviving are his wife of 75 years, the former Dorothy Hammerle; sister, Dorothy Aitchison of Camillus; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at noon Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Rev. Gary E. Ferner officiating. Relatives and friends may call preceding the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Hoyt will be laid to rest in Howlett Hill Cemetery.
