Helmut W. Gust, 87, of Tully, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Community-General Hospital. Born in Neu Rakit, Pommerania on Saturday, February 5, 1921, he was the son of Otto Gust and Klara Mann Gust. He came to Watertown, Wisconsin in 1951 and lived in Syracuse since 2005. Helmut was employed 42 years as a tailor in Watertown and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Westvale Seventh Day Adventist Church. His interests included gardening, especially vegetable gardening, World War II politics, dogs, reading and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Fitzgerald. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Minna Mueller; daughters and sons-in-law, Ursula and Doug Falle of Tully, Anne and Doug Fitzgerald of DePere, Wisconsin, Ruth and James Daily III of Kannapolis, North Carolina and Christel and Aaron West of Harrison, Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Vannesa Gust of Lexington, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and niece, Marlies Sippel. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Westvale Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2511 W. Genesee St. Friends may call preceding the service from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus.
