Helen P. Preston, 90, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on February 20 after a series of illnesses she faced with courage, humor and grace. She was known for her optimism and kindness and will be greatly missed.
Born in Syracuse on April 5, 1929, Helen was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sophia Pfeffer. She graduated from North High School in 1947 and Central City Business Institute in 1948. She worked for 13 years at the Goldome Bank and previously at Lipe-Rollway, Tennessee Gas Company and the Traveler’s Insurance Company. Helen was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and its Alter Guild. She was an auxiliary member and volunteer at Community General Hospital for over 20 years.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John, in 2007; brother, Kurt; daughter, Barbara; and grandson, Peter.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Paul D’Ononfrio) Preston of Delmar; son, James (Gwenn) Preston of Lake Forest, CA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the compassionate caregivers that assisted Helen in the past few years.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 28 in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5402 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Burial will be private.
