Helen Murphy Stier, 96, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at home. Born in Syracuse on Thursday, July 22, 1915, she was the daughter of Jeremiah Jerome Murphy and Mary Louise Dwyer Murphy. She lived in Camillus since 1958. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Helen was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Guilds at Vincent House, Loretto, Vera House and Francis House. She was a former volunteer with the Oxford Inn where she assisted with the breakfast program. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Howard, on May 26, 1989 and sister, Katherine Murphy on January 26, 1997. Surviving are her children, Paul Stier of Lakeland, Mary Guyder and Patricia MacKinder, both of Camillus; grandchildren, David and Evan; great-grandson, Devin; and two nieces. Relatives and friends may call Monday, August 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 2 at the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where Rev. James Lang will celebrate a funeral Mass. Helen will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Helen may be made to the Convent House, 346 West 17th St., New York, NY 10011.
