Helen Maliwauki Smith, 89, of McLean and formerly of Syracuse, passed away Sunday. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a graduate of Central Tech. Helen was employed with the West Genesee Central School District in the cafeteria for 37 years and previously worked for Syracuse Supply for seven years. A communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Ukrainian Girls Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1989; sister, Mary Yaworsky; twin brother, Theodore Maliwauki; and brothers, Joseph and John Maliwesky and Michael Maliwauki.
Surviving are her daughters, Pamela (Armand) Phillips of Liverpool, Susan Massara of Ithaca and Cindy (David) Leskinen of McLean; grandchildren, Timothy, Unger, Caitlin Hart and Brett Leskinen; great-grandchildren, Mason, Nolan, Landon, Paxton, Emery and Aidan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, April 2 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A Divine Liturgy for the Deceased will follow at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Helen will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
