Helen L. Pontello, 80, of Elbridge, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Auburn Memorial Hospital when the love of her life, Carmen, called her to join them in their new home in heaven.
Helen was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and took most pride in taking care of her home and family. She cherished times spent at Sandbank Road where many family holidays, celebrations, corn roasts, and clam bakes were held. Together Helen and Carmen enjoyed and loved the Yankees, antique shopping, playing cards and cooking home cooked meals together. For endearing reasons, the bluebird became a very special symbol to Helen. When one would appear and sing a simple song, it would always make her smile.
Helen was a communicant of Holy Family Church and was predeceased by her husband, Carmen of 53 years.
Surviving are her son, Carmen Jr. (Kim) of Camillus; daughters, Terri (Steven) Gates of Westvale, Christine (Roger) Hill of Skaneateles, and Mary (Loren) Barrigar of Elbridge; grandchildren, Sharon, Morgan, Brittney, Michael, Cara, Nina, Mackenzi, Carmen A., James, Mason, LJ, Deacon, Ricky and Jack; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brooke, Hayden, Hunter, Nadzia; sister, Marion; and brother, John, both of Syracuse.
Relatives and friends may call, on what would have been Helen’s 81st birthday, Tuesday February 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 27 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Helen will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Geddes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Food Pantry, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
