Helen Kotyra

Helen Lischak Kotyra, 87, formerly of Syracuse, died Monday, February 19, 2007 in Marietta, Georgia after a short illness. Born in Syracuse on October 4, 1919, she was the daughter of Julia Patala and Michael Lischak. She lived in Syracuse until moving to Marietta 2 years ago. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter, and daughter, Judith A. Lewis. Bowling and traveling were interests of Helen's. She also enjoyed gardening, particularly peonies, roses and daffodils. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Jean Dahlin (Gene Sweeney) of Marietta, Georgia; grandson, Dr. Mark C. (Ann Marie) Lewis of Sarasota, Florida; son-in-law, Gary F. Lewis of Richmond, Virginia; sisters, Mary Kulba and Anne Lewicki, both of Syracuse and Katherine Pisiak of East Syracuse; brother, William Lischak of Onondaga Hill; seven great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Daniel Kotyra of Camillus and Chester Kotyra of Solvay; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at noon on Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Friends may call Thursday, February 22, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Panakhyda services at 6 p.m. Spring burial will be in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
