Helen K. Hider Mahany, 86, of Camillus, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at The Centers at St. Camillus. Born in Buffalo on Tuesday, April 5, 1927, she was the daughter of Arthur Henry Hider and Mary Elizabeth (Sullivan) Hider. After spending her early years in Buffalo, she moved to Tonawanda in 1952 and resided in Camillus since 1969. Helen was a 1944 graduate of Nardin Academy and 1948 graduate of D' Youville College. She received her master's degree from Buffalo State Teachers' College in 1969. An English teacher for the Baldwinsville Central School District, she retired in 1985 from Baker High School. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Daniel Mahany, on September 5, 2008; and brothers, Arthur, Charles and Richard Hider. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Mary and John Mahany Watson of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Kathleen and Daniel Gilheney of Camillus; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Connie Mahany of Coshocton, Ohio, and Daniel and Marie Mahany of Penfield; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jan Hider of Buffalo; sister-in-law, Rita Hider of Colden; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Camillus for their care and compassion. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 8 at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Peter Worn officiating.
