Helen G. Kanaley

Helen Geiger Kanaley, 99, of Camillus, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2010 at home. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, May 31, 1910, she was the daughter of Fred Geiger and Christina Ecklerline Geiger. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she graduated from Syracuse Normal School. Helen taught elementary school for 10 years with the Syracuse City School District. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, she enjoyed golf, gardening and playing cards. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Mick Kanaley. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Kanaley of Camillus and James and Cathy Kanaley of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania; sister, Dorothy Osborne of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, January 27, 2010 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum, St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James Church, 4845 South Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13205 or to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
