Helen C. Stabler, 90, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Crouse Hospital. Born in Nashua, NH, she was the daughter of Erwin and Emma Cross. Helen lived in the Syracuse area since 1957. A graduate of Colby College, she received a master’s degree in education from Syracuse University and for many years was a pre-school teacher. Helen was an active member of her community. She was especially interested in things that she believed to be beneficial to others. Helen was active in Peace Action of CNY, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Syracuse, Friends Committee (including Ministry and Counsel and the Committee on National Legislation), as well as being a member of Syracuse Friends Meeting.
Helen was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and was always up-to-date on current events around the world. Her greatest pleasure came from family gatherings, especially the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Edward; son, Edward P. Stabler, Jr. (Kathy Hill) of San Jose, CA; daughters, Elizabeth Riker (Jim Kolbe), Caroline Gettino (Larry), and Catherine King (Jack); seven grandchildren, Katie Callahan (Justin), John R. Szczech (Christie Elliott), Chris Szczech, Nicholas Gettino, Paula Riker, Allison Gettino, and Violet Kolbe; and three great-grandchildren, Callum, Connor, and Cadence Callahan.
There will be no services.
