Harry J. Tucker Jr., 86, of Camillus, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. Born in Washington, D.C. to the late Harry and Lillian Tucker, he was a 1945 graduate of Western High School. A Navy veteran of WW II, Harry served on the USS Coral Sea. He then graduated in 1951 from George Washington Univ. where he received a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering. He moved to Camillus in 1960. Employed by General Electric Co. for 39 years, retiring on June 1, 1992, Harry worked in anti-submarine warfare development and also for two years at the Naval Research Lab in Anacostia, Washington, D.C. and one year as an associate professor at George Washington University. He was active in many civic activities including the Boy Scouts, Syracuse Music Theater, Syracuse Cinephile Society and the Syracuse Kiltie Band. He enjoyed traveling and had many memorable experiences. Harry was predeceased by his son, Russell, in 2013. Surviving are his beloved wife and high school sweetheart of 65 years, the former Annabelle Yates; son, Steven (Anne) Allen Tucker of Kensington, MD; daughter, Kathryn Anne Tucker of Reston, VA; sisters, Margaret (Harry) Schoen of Spartanburg, SC and Carolyn Tucker of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Thomas (Ellen) Tucker of Florida; grandsons, Gregory and Nicholas Tucker; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Harry's name to your local public library.
